The Ss. Cyril and Methodius University in Skopje is the first state University in the Republic of Macedonia, founded in 1949, initially with three faculties. At the moment, the University represents a functional community of 23 faculties, 5 research institutes, 4 public science institutes - associate members.

The University offers study programmes in all science fields - natural sciences and mathematics, technical and technological sciences, medical sciences and health, biotechnical sciences, social sciences, humanities and arts. Except in faculties, research is also carried out in independent research institutes.

The Faculty of Philosophy is a member of the Skopje University, and historically was the first higher education institution in contemporary history. It houses 11 institutes dedicated to the study of philosophy, pedagogy, history, history of art and archaeology, classical studies, psychology, sociology, security, defense and peace studies, social work and social policy, special needs education and gender studies. The Faculty of Philosophy is the only higher education institution in the country researching andragogy and studying andragogy at first, second and third cycle.
