I work for the Volunteer Service Centre in Dronten. Every year I am involved in the local activities of the Learning Festival. In these activities we cooperate with all kind of local organisations that are involved in lifelong learning. Regular partners are the local public library, the Rotary service club, the Municipality and the Regional Centre for Adult Education. Annually also other partners join the Festival organisation. Last year it was Kwintes, a Day Activity Centre for people with mental health problems).

I was invited for the second time to join a international project meeting and Learning Festival in another country. The first time I visited Estonia and last year I went to Slovenia.

For me personally this was a very nice experience, but it was also inspiring for my work. From Slovenia I brought the idea of making a video in which learners talked about their learning experiences and what these experiences gave them for their personal life. I shared this idea of the video with Kwintes, who decided to use the idea and to film some of their clients. In the video the clients talk about the volunteer work they are realizing and its important meaning for their personal development.
During the meeting in Slovenia I got more ideas that I can use in my work, e.g. the scouting card.
For the future ... hopefully next year my organization De Meerpaal will take part in the Learning Festival again. But we have to deal with cuts in the budget and unfortunately therefore active participation in the festival is not obvious anymore.

My personal goal in relation to lifelong learning is solved in February. Then I start training as a union consultant and I can obtain theoretical knowledge about the Labour-Social and Private Law. Well, obviously I'm learning every day. Sometimes big things and sometimes smaller thing. Last winter I learned to skate in the indoor ice rink and today I can skate on natural vice from Kampen to Elburg and back. (35 km.) So you see, you are never too old to learn.

I am also a guest lecturer since December 2011 for www.dagjelesgeven.nl. Here you share your own work experience with pupils in order to help them with the educational and career choices they have to make. Thanks a lot of fun to do!

Hope to see you!
